LaKresha Moultrie has led a career dedicated to service.  In January 2025, LaKresha was nominated by Governor Matthew Meyer and unanimously confirmed by the State Senate to serve as Delaware’s Secretary of Labor.  As secretary, she serves as the head of the Department which connects people to jobs, resources, and benefits to support the state’s strong economy.  The Department’s broad authority includes labor and anti-discrimination law enforcement, assisting individuals with disabilities with developing career pathways, creating opportunities for previously incarcerated individuals to re-enter the workforce, and providing training for employers and job seekers.

Prior to her current role, LaKresha was the Vice President of Legal Affairs, General Counsel, and Chief Enterprise Risk Officer at Delaware State University, one of America’s leading Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs).  In this role, LaKresha provided legal counsel to University executives and its Board of Trustees. She also leveraged her legal expertise to assess critical issues facing the institution and mitigate risks. LaKresha counseled the University through the acquisition of Wesley College, which gained the University the distinction as the first HBCU to ever acquire a college or university.

LaKresha’s early career is most notable for her stint at the Delaware Department of Justice where she began as an entry-level prosecutor and progressed to Chief Deputy Attorney General, the second highest ranking attorney in the office.   Her career at the Department included trial and appellate work in all the State courts.

LaKresha received her law degree from Delaware Law School of Widener University and her undergraduate degree, magna cum laude, from Pace University.

LaKresha’s professional accomplishments and charitable activities were acknowledged when she was recognized by The Delaware Business Times as part of the Class of 2015 “40 Under 40” and one of the “40 Most Empowering Women in Business” in 2021.

LaKresha takes great pride in her family. She and her husband, Samuel Moultrie, live in Hockessin with their children McKenzie, Maximus, and Mahalia.
